Take the opportunity to try out our new Expressive with Mixed Media in this special 'taster' art class before committing to the full 4-week program. As part of our 'Ink It Up' initiative, supported by Bayside City Council, Bayley Arts is excited to welcome professional Printmakers Lisa Sewards and Trudy Rice to our studios. This is a special one-off hands-on workshop in a small sized class where you'll discover the magical world of Solar Plate Etching. This non-toxic intaglio etching process uses the sun's natural UV (or a UV lightbox) and water rather than harmful acids and solvents to create remarkable results. Our friends from Squid Ink Press will be hosting a special cyanotype workshop for kids these school holidays at Bayley Arts. Cyanotypes are an early form of photography using a photo sensitive coating on paper and fabric and exposing it to a UV light source. This is a fun and accessible workshop for kids 7yrs to 12yrs. Students will engage with nature, explore texture, light and composition and will have the chance to create several prints on paper and their very own tote bag to bring home. The workshops coincide with the exhibition Concentric Unity: Jintaka- juku showing at Bayley Arts Gallery 6th to 19th July. Reclaim the Void is a bold, cross-cultural project about the 'gaping mining holes left all over country'. It will result in a huge dot-artwork made up of thousands of handmade circular rag-rugs woven from discarded fabric. This is a great 3-hour introduction to lino printing workshop especially designed for teens interested in learning printmaking skills. Suitable for teens aged 14yrs to 17yrs. Social print club offers a large studio space, printing press and use of our rollers and tools during the session. You will need to bring your own inks, plates and paper. A supervisor is present to offer general advice and can assist with setting up the press however they are not teaching. It is recommended that people attending these sessions have some experience with printmaking or have attended one of our Introduction to Printmaking classes.
