From Australia to the Alps: Alex Competes on the International Stage

Around Bayley In the Community

Last year we shared the exciting news that Alex Cherny was preparing to compete in the Virtus Skiing Championships in Italy and Austria. After a month of dedicated training across both countries, Alex proudly represented Australia in two Virtus Open Ski Championships.

He competed first at the Italian Virtus Open Ski Championships in Tarvisio from 29 to 31 January, followed by the Austrian Open Ski Championships in Kitzbühel from 4 to 7 February. Across both events, Alex took on Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G, competing against 60 athletes in Italy and 45 in Austria.

For Australian athletes, access to consistent snow training is limited, and all training is organised and fully funded by families. That makes competing at this level an achievement in itself.

Alex delivered a strong performance in Austria, placing fifth in Slalom. He was unfortunately disqualified in the Giant Slalom after a fall on the course and was unable to compete in the Super G due to illness. In Italy, he placed midfield across all three events, demonstrating determination and resilience on the international stage.

Competing overseas at this level takes commitment, preparation and courage. Everyone at Bayley House congratulates Alex on representing Australia with such dedication and spirit.
