Rob Mills on the Bayley Babble –  A Visit Full of Laughs, Music and Connection

It’s not every day someone from Australian screen and stage drops in for a chat. When Rob Mills (yep, the one from Australian Idol, Neighbours, and all those musicals) visited the Bayley Babble recently, the energy was high, the conversations were buzzing and the smiles said it all.

Before jumping behind the mic for an episode of Bayley Babble, Millsy took a tour of our art studios, gallery, and creative spaces and instantly clicked with everyone he met. He asked questions, cracked jokes, signed artwork and happily posed for photos. But more than anything, he listened.

The Real Stars of the Day

The moment Rob arrived, the room filled with excitement and smiles. There were wide eyes, excited giggles, and some brilliant banter, especially from our podcast hosts who got to grill him on everything from Bon Jovi to being a villain on Neighbours.

In the arts studio, Rob spent time with the people we support as they worked on their latest projects. He was genuinely interested in their processes, their stories, and their creativity,  “These guys are the real talent,” he said more than once and meant it.

Confidence, Connection and A Big Dose of Fun

The Bayley Babble podcast episode was a particular highlight. Hosted by a group of the people we support, the episode was full of laughter, great questions, and some heartfelt moments. In the lead-up to the interview, the hosts worked hard to prepare meaningful questions, eager to make the most of their time with Rob. Each host had their own easy-read prompt sheet to help guide the conversation and build confidence on the mic.

This kind of support is a reflection of what Bayley House is all about; providing exceptional, person-centred support for people with intellectual disability and empowering them to take the lead in creative, meaningful experiences.

Rob’s warmth and honesty created a space where everyone felt confident to share, chat and laugh along like old friends.

A Shared Moment That Matters

While Millsy’s résumé might be full of musical theatre, telly, and rock tributes, the impact of his visit was far more personal. Rob helped to create a moment of recognition for the people we support, one where they weren’t just part of the audience, they were part of the conversation.
