Around Bayley In the Community

Representatives from Bayley House and Hidden Disabilities Sunflower recently attended the Melbourne Disability Expo, hosted by Impact Suite.

The expo, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition, was a two day event that  brought together families, carers, support workers and providers from across Victoria.

This was a fantastic opportunity to share Bayley House services with the wider community and explain what we do to a new audience. We also introduced visitors to our partnership with the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower.

Bayley House is the official distributor of Hidden Disabilities Sunflower across Australia and New Zealand. The Sunflower is a simple and powerful tool. It helps people with hidden disabilities feel safe and supported in the community. Wearing the Sunflower signals that a person may need a little more time or understanding. Many visitors told us how important this is for them and their families.

The expo also highlighted how well our collaboration works. People were more curious about Sunflower once they realised it is distributed by an Australian disability provider. At the same time, people who already knew of the Sunflower were more open to learning about Bayley House. The connection between the two created a natural flow of interest in both directions.

We received a lot of positive feedback. Many visitors spoke about the quality of our work and the strong reputation Bayley House has in the community. One support worker said, ‘Bayley House does such a great job and has a fantastic reputation.’ This was one of many similar comments from people who work in the sector.

Across the two days we met many people who already knew who we were. For those who did not, it was great to explain what we offer and how the Sunflower partnership works.
