Behind the Scenes of the Bayley Arts Fashion Show

Around Bayley Bayley Arts

The Bayley Arts Fashion Show celebrates the creativity, skill and confidence of our textiles artists.

Over the past two years, artists in the textiles group have built skills in sewing, dressmaking, screen printing and jewellery making. Each person brings their own ideas and style to the runway. As a result, every piece feels personal and unique.

This year, the group will model pieces they have helped create, including designs featuring Bayley Artists artwork. Guest designer Lucy Laurita has also created bespoke garments featuring work by Bayley Artist Thomas Weisner. These one-off pieces have been donated for auction on the night, with proceeds supporting the Bayley Arts textile program.

Cassice’s story is one example of the confidence and skills being built within the group. She has developed skills in hand sewing, pattern making, cutting fabric and using sewing machines and the overlocker. With support, adaptive tools created with TOM Melbourne and plenty of determination, Cassice’s confidence and independence have grown. Cassice is excited to return to the Fashion Show this year. She will take to the runway in a blue corduroy outfit that reflects her creativity and personal style.

The event will also include market stalls with an exclusive Bayley Arts screen print and jewellery range, as well as sustainable fibre craft by Fitting Connections. In addition, guests can view Around Thread, a textiles exhibition featuring special guest fibre artist Maryanne Moodie alongside Bayley Arts textile artists.
