Bayley Arts Film Festival at Palace Cinemas

Around Bayley Bayley Arts

Last Thursday, in partnership with Palace Cinemas Church Street, we proudly hosted the very first Bayley Arts Film Festival. The event was a sell out, with over 170 people attending to celebrate the imagination and achievements of the Bayley Arts Film Studio crew.

Bayley Arts Film Studio is still very new and in just two years it has already achieved so much.

The crew have thrown themselves into every aspect of film making, from storyboarding and acting to sound production, using new cameras and exploring editing software. For such a new program, success came very quickly. Their short film Unicorn made the national top five in the Focus on Ability Film Festival, with a feature spot on SBS.

The evening itself felt like a world premiere. It was a formal occasion and everyone looked amazing as they arrived in style, walked the red carpet and experienced the thrill of seeing their work on the big screen. Palace Cinemas provided the incredible venue and they also provided popcorn for all guests.

It was wonderful to welcome a huge audience of the people we support, along with our local Member of Parliament James Newbury, many Bayley House staff, board members and our wider community.

Most of all, the night was a celebration of creativity and community. It was also a moment to acknowledge the considerable skill, time and dedication that instructors, John and Yared have brought to supporting the filmmakers and their creative journeys. Congratulations to Wendy, Darcy, Andy, Harry, Ashlee, Bri, David, Mary and Daniel for their fun, inventive and entertaining short films. This festival was their night to shine.

The journey continues. A new group of Bayley Artists are about to begin their filmmaking adventure with Bayley Arts Film Studio, ready to learn the craft and bring their own stories to the screen. We cannot wait to see what creativity they will unleash.

Adding to the excitement, BAFS short film Shelly has been selected for the Focus on Ability Film Festival and will be showcased at Crown Casino in October. Another proud milestone for the filmmakers and further proof of the talent and dedication that shines at Bayley Arts.
