Celebrating 75 Years

This year, Bayley House marks 75 years of dedication to supporting people with intellectual disability. With 75 years of continuous support, we are one of Australia’s longest-running intellectual disability services. This allows us to bring deep experience and the ability to adapt in order to meet the individual and varied needs of people throughout their adult life. Within our community, people are welcomed, known and supported over time. Stability and trusted relationships are integral to our service delivery, enabling confidence and growth. Our person centred approach is at the heart of what we do, with a clear focus on creating pathways to a meaningful life. Reaching 75 years is a testament to learning, evolving and adapting to the changing needs of the people we support. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone which is a tribute to recognising the every day achievements of adults with intellectual disability as they live the lives they choose. We look forward to seeing you at the celebration events across the coming months.

Our Beginnings

Bayley House first opened its doors in 1951 as the Brighton & District Branch of the Helping Hand Association, born from the vision of a group of parents with a desire to provide educational opportunities for children with intellectual disability. Today, 75 years later, we cater for adults, from school leavers to seniors, through the delivery of a diverse range of day activities and supported living options. We support over 300 individuals with intellectual disability and their families.

Our History

The history of Bayley House is captured beautifully in a book entitled A Special Place: A History of Bayley House, Brighton. Created to celebrate our 50th Anniversary, this book is well worth a read to appreciate our place in the lives of many people and our journey over the decades. Please ask us if you would like to see a copy.
