NDIS Fraud Prevention taskforce established

News & Events

The Federal Government last month announced the formation of a taskforce to deter and respond to fraud committed against the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The taskforce will operate as a joint initiative of the National Disability Insurance Agency, the Department of Human Services and the Australian Federal Police. The focus of its 100 personnel will be on preventing and disrupting large-scale fraud while building on a culture of integrity around the NDIS framework as a major social reform.

The Government says that establishing the taskforce is not a response to any evidence of widespread fraud; however, with $22 billion a year of public funds at stake when the NDIS is fully implemented, some people will be attracted to the scheme for the wrong reasons.

Any suspected fraudulent activity should be reported to the NDIS Fraud Hotline on 1800 650 717.
