Ironman our Hero

For many, the Queen’s Birthday holiday weekend is a time to relax. But not for IronMan Paul Carr, North Brighton Anglican Minister and ‘everydayhero’.

Paul joined over 2,500 entrants in the Cairns Asia Pacific IronMan Championships: reputedly the toughest one-day race in the world.

The challenge took in the tropical Queensland coast from Palm Cove to Cairns with a 3.8km open water swim, a 180km bike time trial and a 42.5km run. Paul completed the race without a break in just 10 hours and 33 minutes to finish 184th overall and raised funds for Bayley House in the process.

Paul has participated in IronMan events for the past five years and this remarkable effort now sees him ranked in the top 10 per cent of the ‘All World Athlete’ banding.

Reflecting on his achievements, Paul says it’s not about him. “We managed to raise funds two years ago for a family with difficulties… It was a very special privilege to raise funds for Bayley House. Bayley House and our St Stephen’s Church, Gardenvale, have developed a great relationship together.”

Paul promoted his race to family, friends and the community via the everydayhero platform and nominated Bayley House as the beneficiary of his fundraising. Thank you to everyone who generously supported Paul to raise almost $1,000 for Bayley House: a fabulous result!
