Wendy enjoys many styles of art and has been a keen contributor to this year’s exhibition. Choosing to experiment with different mediums such as water colour, ink and fabric, Wendy has created a varied mix of artworks and is very excited to see being exhibited and to have the opportunity to sell her works. When asked about her inspiration, Wendy said, ‘well, I like birds. So now you can sell it!’ Wendy’s love of birds often inspires her creative works whether in creative writing or art. Wendy also says she loves the social elements of art and being able to work alongside friends and peers when art making.

Artist Bio

Wendy created this artwork using a piece of scrap plywood and water colours. Starting with sanding the wood smooth, she then used water colours to paint the background and washed the solid colours off to give the washed-out effect. Wendy then drew the image on the computer and transferred it by stencil to the wood. She then used acrylic paint to paint in the silhouette and a satin finish and glitter to give it that extra sparkle. When asked to describe this piece, Wendy says “Birds are pretty! Now you can sell it!” Before working on this piece for inspiration Wendy explored a painting of a lone bird delicately painted by Brett Whitely and also the work of Susannah Paterson whose nature filled paintings have a great sense of movement and freedom and a painterly aesthetic.
