Chatty Cafe

In the Community

Community connection is extremely important at Bayley House so when we get the chance to make new connections, we jump at it!

Castlefield Community Centre reached out to Bayley House at the beginning of the year to see if any of our groups would keen to join their Chatty Cafe. They have volunteers who come in and help make coffee and play music, including some Bayley House parents. Our group goes once a week for coffee and morning tea, and are entertained by Ron who plays the guitar. Ron taught himself how to play the Neighbour’s theme song after learning that is was a favourite of Dima’s! Castlefield Community Centre has really embraced the connection with Bayley House clients and have provided an engaging, inclusive space where conversations and laughter are encouraged.

This started off with four clients being supported by one staff member but the success of the new relationship has seen the program grow to include two staff now supporting up to ten clients. It is a highlight of the week for some of our older clients who choose not to join in on bigger community access programs. It is very sensory and tactile, they are also encouraged to take part in art sessions. This particular Chatty Cafe runs from 10am – 11.30am on a Friday.

Castlefield Community Centre is very supportive of Bayley House, they have donated a few items for the garden at the Whitehouse as well!
