ASTounding!

Around Bayley

On Monday 21 November, our AST (Access Skills Training) crew attended their graduation ceremony at Brighton Library. Celebrating the completion of Certificate 1 in Transition Education.

It would be an understatement to say that this graduation was a long time coming. What turned out to be the class of 2022 was originally meant to be the class of 2020. So, in the many months that required lockdowns and remote learning, this superstar class persevered and kept working towards their goals.

Parts of this course proved to be incredibly challenging due to COVID19. The group: Tess, Amy, Bar, Bri, Courtney, Daniel, Will and Lily all gelled together and supported each other every step of the way. The group remained positive, with the finish line in mind and were very grateful to make it to the end of the course.

While most of the classes were conducted online with staff members Clare, Jordan and Sonja, overseen by AST instructor, Amy – there was incredible relief when the classes could resume in person at our Hampton East hub. The graduation was a wonderful celebration of hard work and dedication, and in true form one of the students attended via video call!

Congratulations to all involved in the completion of this course, it is a great reminder that when you are determined, anything is possible.

A special thanks to Brighton Library and Bayside City Council who generously provided us with a space and equipment for our graduation celebration.

‘Thank you to Amy, Jordan and Clare for all their hard work during this program. We couldn’t have done the course without them’ – Courtney

‘I love my life and going to Bayley House. I love the Friday TAFE group and the chats we have to start the day. Lots of laughing. Everyone in the group is helpful. Thank you to Amy, Clare and Jordan. Happy Graduation!’ – Lily
