Access Skills Training Graduation
24 June, 2025
For many years now, Bayley House has partnered with Access Skills Training to deliver Certificate-based courses within our skill development programs.
But what exactly is Access Skills Training? Access Skills Training (AST) is an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and a division of WISE Employment Ltd, offering a range of short, pre-accredited, and accredited courses. Their mission is “Everything we believe in, and everything we deliver, ensures we offer students the highest quality and best standard to succeed in their training and employment goals.” So it makes absolute sense for Bayley House to work with AST in providing exceptional courses for the people we support as they work towards their goals.
Over the past 18 months, a group of Bayley House students have diligently met each week and pushed themselves to participate, learn, grow, and ultimately graduate from their chosen courses.
Two groups, comprising 15 students in total, banded together to chip away at their course work. Seven students completed a Certificate I in Work Education, which ran over 12 months, while eight students completed a Certificate II in Hospitality over 18 months. The sessions also included practical components, with the barista training proving to be a clear favourite—unsurprising in Melbourne, where coffee is practically a second language.
And what is further learning without a celebration upon completion? This past month, all of the students and their families, friends and supporters were invited to Bayley Arts for a graduation ceremony. Certificates were presented, instructors beamed with pride, and acceptance speeches were eagerly delivered by some of the more outgoing students. Claudia brought the house down with her rousing speech about how much she enjoyed Caroline’s guidance in helping her finish the course and achieve her goal.
AST offers a pathway into volunteer hospitality placements, and some students are already building on their new skills in local café environments.
