Jimmy Duchini Named Bayside City Council Volunteer of the Year 2025

If you have walked down Church Street early in the morning, chances are you have been greeted by James Duchini (Jimmy), or as the locals affectionately call him, ‘the Mayor of Church Street.’

Jimmy, who attends Bayley House, recently earned the title of Bayside City Council Volunteer of the Year 2025 thanks to his tireless efforts helping local businesses throughout the Bayside community. Every morning without fail, Jimmy heads down Church Street, helping cafes, grocers, and shopfronts set up for the day. From The Pantry to Dendy Deli, Mylk, Mint Foodstore, White Rabbit, Brighton Fish Tank and Woolworths, he helps to set up and stops for a chat.

We took a walk down Church Street with Jimmy and saw his magic in action. Traders stopped to shake his hand. Locals hugged him. Nick Johnston from the real estate office paused for a high five and a quick photo. It wasn’t just heartwarming, it was extraordinary. His presence brings a warmth to the street before the coffee even starts brewing.

Jimmy doesn’t just help out, he lifts the spirit of the street. He keeps an eye out for anything that’s not quite right and steps in when needed. Whether it’s reporting an issue or checking in on a familiar face, Jimmy shows up with quiet leadership, reliability, and a genuine connection to his community and that is exactly what makes him so deserving of this honour.

At Bayley House, we are proud to support people like Jimmy who make real contributions in their communities. His story reminds us what’s possible when people are given the opportunity to shine and that inclusion isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we live and see in action every day.
