Proposed Upgrade to Bayley House’s Main Building: A Vision for the Future

For more than fifty years, Bayley House’s main building at 52 Middle Crescent, Brighton, has been at the heart of our community, providing a welcoming and dependable environment for people with disability, their families, and our dedicated staff. Now, an exciting proposal is being explored to upgrade key areas of this much-loved building, ensuring it remains accessible, functional, and welcoming for decades to come.

This proposed project aims to modernise and enhance multiple areas of the building, with a focus on improving accessibility, functionality, and overall experience. Key elements under consideration include:

  • A more inviting and accessible entrance
  • Upgraded program spaces to better support a range of activities
  • A new glass lift, compliant with accessibility standards, along with a refurbished staircase and improved ramps
  • Additional staff facilities to support our growing team
  • New landscaping and external accessibility improvements

While the building has served the Bayley House community well for many years, modernisation is essential to maintain compliance, improve functionality, and create a more inclusive environment for the people we support. This proposal builds on past renovations, including upgrades to the Glassborow Building and the rear of the main site.

Next Steps

Bayley House has engaged an architect to develop preliminary designs, which have now been submitted to the local Council for consideration. A Notice Board has been installed on-site as part of the formal planning process to inform the broader community about the proposed works.

It’s important to note that the project’s progression depends on Council approval and a successful future fundraising campaign.
