NAB donates computers
16th of July 2009
Thanks to a joint effort between two departments of the National Australia Bank, the Rotary Club of Brighton and a Victorian Police Officer, staff at Bayley House now have access to 10 laptop computers to complete administrative reports and develop personalised plans for clients.Bayley House is based in Brighton and provides support services and programs to over 160 adults with an intellectual disability. As part of the Disability Act 2006 services such as Bayley House are implementing a new Quality Framework system that requires that Personal Support Plans and other necessary documentation such as progress reports, assessments and procedures be completed electronically. Up until recently Instructors working directly with clients have had little need for computer facilities and Bayley House was finding it challenging to secure funding to purchase the necessary equipment for the new staff resource room.
Fortunately for Bayley House, National Australia Bank (NAB), the Rotary Club of Brighton and Detective Inspector Peter De Santo came to the rescue. Peter is a participant in the Police Leadership Mentoring Program, an initiative that fosters partnerships amongst leaders in Rotary, business and the Victoria Police. Together with his community mentor, David Effron from the Rotary Club of Brighton, Peter approached Bayley House and offered assistance in sourcing the much needed computer equipment.
Peter worked collaboratively with David Bannatyne, Chief Risk Officer NAB Group Business Services and Michael White from the NAB Executive Technology team to facilitate the donation and preparation of 10 ex-executive laptop computers for use by Bayley House’s Instructors. They also liaised with Microsoft to secure a donation of Microsoft Windows XP and 2007 Office packages which were installed by members of the NAB Executive Technology team.
Bayley House received the computers in late March and they were made available for staff to borrow to take home or use in their work areas. Several were recently installed in the new Staff Resource Room.
“This is a tremendous gift” says Chief Executive Officer, Janet Batey “We are extremely appreciative of the generosity of National Australia Bank and thank all those involved in seeing the project through to fruition. Both Peter De Santo and David Bannatyne have worked hard to ensure that our staff now have access to computer equipment that will enable them to better support our clients. We cannot adequately express what this means to us”
David Bannatyne and his colleagues, Lisa Adam and Craig Walker joined Peter and staff from Bayley House on July 15 to tour the Day Activities Centre and observie firsthand the difference the donation of computers has made. Each was presented with a small plaque and gift in thanks for their support.
