Milan-Melbourne Exchange Program
15th of March 2010
In March Bayley House was involved in MELMI, an international exchange program for young people with a disability.
As part of the program Bayley House, together with Interchange and the Aussie Hands Foundation hosted eight young adults from Atlha Onlus and their carers during their visit to Melbourne. Atlha Onlus is a disability service based in Milan, Italy that supports people with a range of different disabilities. Bayley House assisted in showing the group around Melbourne, helping with transport and hosting social activities. We also facilitated a series of Performing Arts activities.
The visitors were taken to Williamstown for lunch, attended a reception at the Melbourne Town Hall as well as visiting several disability service providers and spending time at the Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Phillip Island.
There are many benefits derived from this type of exchange program. It provided a great setting for the sharing knowledge, experiences and ideas. Bayley House will have the opportunity later this year to take several of our people to visit Milan and learn more about the services and programs Italy provides to people with a disability.
It is hoped that this will be the start of a long lasting friendship with Milan and we can work together to exchange knowledge and learn from each other.
